Innovative technology for Samsonite travel suitcases

Samsonite, the world leader in luggage, is a trendsetter in travel solutions. This is achieved through groundbreaking research and a constant pursuit of innovation and quality. The facility in Oudenaarde (Belgium) serves as the center for product development.

Challenge

Developing 12 machines for the thermoforming of lightweight Cosmolite suitcases, starting from CURV® material.

Solution

For the development of this innovative technology, close collaboration took place with Samsonite Oudenaarde. Vaskon delivered a turnkey solution (which was patented), incorporating the following elements:

• Automatic feeding of CURV® material sheets
• Automated application of stretch film
• Preheating, fixing, and forming using thermoforming technology
• Handling and extraction of the final product

Why Vaskon?

Vaskon was responsible for the complete mechanical design, all automation, and the manufacturing of the thermoforming molds. Additionally, Vaskon could rely on the broad expertise of the Valtech Group. The presses were developed by Valvan Baling Systems, while the hydraulic systems were carefully provided by Allhydro.
